Major League Soccer (1996-present)

by David Litterer spectrum@sover.net

MLS is the first successful Division I professional soccer league in
the United States since the demise of the NASL in 1984, and the only
truly world-class US league to get USSF and FIFA sanctioning. This
league was inspired in part by the success of the 1994 World Cup,
held in the United States. (In addition, a condition of the World
Cup being awarded to the US was the stipulation that the US would
have a 1st division pro soccer league before or shortly after the
cup was held). MLS added Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake in 2005,
Toronto FC in 2007, San Jose in 2008, Seattle in 2009, Philadelphia
in 2010, and will add Portland and Vancouver in 2011.

An exhaustive archive of MLS history (including complete player register)
can be found at the History section of the official MLS website.

0 points for a loss.
(1996-1999) 3 points for a win, 1 point for a shootout win, 0 points for a loss.
